Battleship Basketball

I’m a basketball guy through and through but I love the tactical battle present in a great football game. The best teams don’t run random plays, they run plays meant to break down whatever coverage they’re expecting. If the offense gets a cover 3 look they’ll attack the rules of the defense with a dagger concept, 4 verts, flood concepts, etc. In basketball, too many coaches treat play calling like a game of Battleships. Next off season when building a playbook, instead of looking for clever sets, understand what concepts beat the coverages your opponents run.
